Janel Richards

My name is Janel Richards and I have been a Personnel Administrator since enlisting in the British Army in May 2002. I was born on the island of Saint Lucia and was a Port Police Officer prior to my enlistment. My role has allowed me to deploy to various countries in the world, the most recent being Oman. My greatest accomplishment so far was attaining the Rank of Warrant Officer and receiving the Chief Royal Engineer’s Commendation in recognition of my exemplary Service. I am currently in my last year of study for a Level 7 Advanced Diploma in Strategic People Management with the CIPD.

I love the outdoors and enjoy keeping fit. My favourite pastime is reading, and I love James Patterson novels, one of my most favoured authors. I also enjoy travelling, although majority of my travels have always been work related, not leaving much time for fun.

As a parent to 3 children, juggling work, family and school, life can be a bit challenging. As a parent governor, I have seen first hand the challenges faced by the school, whilst also allowing me to have my own viewpoint as a parent. The role has allowed me to experience first-hand, how the curriculum is delivered as well as the everyday challenges faced by the teachers. The role will also give me the chance to influence areas that matter to both me and my child, whilst also allowing the opportunity to critique and hold the school accountable.
