Gaye is a retired primary school teacher and taught in a number of schools in Essex and Suffolk for 25 years before coming to Hampshire. Throughout her teaching career she also represented a teachers union, as a caseworker, supporting teacher members and head teachers to solve employment difficulties. Since moving to Basingstoke she has been a Benevolence officer for Hampshire, assisting members in need to apply for financial help from the teaching union charity.
Gaye is married with 3 children, 2 step children and 10 grandchildren ranging from 27 to 2 years of age.
She came to Hampshire just over three years ago in order to support her daughter when she started a family. Gaye now regularly does school runs a few days a week and looks after two of her grandchildren in the holidays.
As well as her new role as a member of the governing body Gaye does volunteer work for the local community. She has a small dog and enjoys walking, gardening, crafting, Pilates and entertaining as she loves cooking.
