The year 2020 has kicked off with an introduction to one of the most famous events in English history, The Great Fire of London! The children discovered a very famous old tatty diary written by Samuel Pepys but oh dear! The pages about the fire are missing!
The children have worked hard on their mission to learn about the fire and write a replacement diary entry to help repair the diary and return it to the museum.
We have also found out more about the author of the diary, Samuel Pepys. Did you know he used a secret code so his diary couldn't be read by others? He also buried his cheese and wine to keep it safe from the fire. What would you want to keep safe if there was a fire?
Out and About
This topic was a brand new topic for this year. The aim is to get the children "Out and About" in their own local area learning about the place where they live. Over the half term the children went on many walks learning about human and physical features around the school. They found familiar places on a map of the local area and tracked their walks using a compass. Hopefully you will have seen the posters about Popley the children worked so hard on. They have even been displayed in the local Tesco!
It was great to see so many Merton Mission maps completed and displayed in the classroom.
As 2019 comes to a close, the classroom is in full Christmas swing! I'm sure if you listen closely you'll hear the singing practise all around Popley.
Congratulations to all the children who have worked so hard on their Christmas performances. They really made us proud!
We’re On the Move!
Welcome to Year 1! We are starting our year with our We’re On the Move where we will be learning about the history of different modes of transport. We also get to visit Beaulieu Motor Museum and have a ride in an old car!
We look forward to getting to know the children this half term and we are already learning the new rules and routines. Please keep checking back for more news about what we get up to.
We have had some lovely homework in so far including this poster all about transport during the holidays!
