Newsletter 6

Newsletter 6 – 9th January 2014

Dear Parents / Carers,

Welcome back and best wishes for your health & happiness in 2014.  We have another busy term at school so please check your child’s book bag every day for any newsletters or visit our school website.  Year group Curriculum newsletters will also come out this week detailing the topic for this half term and suggesting ways you can support your child’s learning at home.

Please let’s start the New Year on time!!  School starts at 8.45a.m. and classroom doors will close at 8.55am.  Any child who is late must be signed in at the office.  Lateness can cause your child to be anxious and disrupts their and others’ learning.

May I remind you that it is your responsibility to inform the school office if your child is absent from school for any reason.  If you do not inform the office by 9.30a.m. your child’s absence will be recorded as unauthorised

INSET dates

School will be closed for staff training on:

Friday 4th April.  Focus - New Curriculum

Monday 30th June.  Focus - Pupil Progress / Data Analysis

We need to paint the YR fence and would welcome any volunteers who could spare some time to help.  The job could be finished in a day if Mr. Guntrip had more hands.  Please see the office if you can offer your time.

Behaviour Management Policy

The staff and Governors have reviewed our Behaviour Management Policy and we are introducing a new reward system for the children.  It is based on a ‘Going for Goals’ approach.  There will be 4 certificates - bronze, silver, gold and diamond.  Children will collect stamps for good behaviour and following the school rules or good attitudes towards learning.  Staff will annotate on the cards the reason for achieving their stamp.  The bronze card will be awarded for 10 stamps, the silver card for 25 stamps, the gold card for 40 stamps and a diamond card for 55 stamps.  Once a child has achieved all 4 cards (i.e. 130 stamps) they will be entitled to a prize (e.g. cinema or theatre tickets) at the end of the year.

Teachers will continue to nominate a ‘WOW’ (Worker of the Week) child who will receive a certificate in Celebration Assembly.

If children choose to misbehave, a sanction will be given by any member of staff.  This may result in losing some playtime on that day or for serious offences, they may be excluded from the class treat.

A copy of the whole policy is available on the website.

Dinner Money/Trip Payments, etc

The office staff are increasingly having to send text reminders to parents about unpaid dinner money. The school has to adhere to tight financial procedures.  Therefore we would like to remind parents that dinner money should be paid either in advance or on the day that the meal is ordered.  If a debt of £4 is accrued your child will not be allowed to order any more dinners and you will have to send them to school with a packed lunch until the debt has been paid.

Please could you also make sure that any money being sent into school is placed in your child’s zippy wallet, preferably in a sealed envelope or with a slip of paper, detailing the amount and what the money is for.  This should be given to your child’s class teacher so that it can be logged for auditing purposes.  Under no circumstances should loose money be handed into the office.  As you can appreciate, the office staff are often very busy dealing with visitors, late children, etc and loose money could go astray. If you need change the office staff will send it home at the end of the day.

Please ensure that any money for FOM fundraising activities is kept completely separate from dinner money, etc as it has to go directly to FOM for processing and is paid into a separate bank account.  We would appreciate your co-operation with this matter.

Karate club will be starting next Monday, 13 January.  There is a charge of £4 per session.  If your child is interested in doing karate this term, please contact the office.  Football club starts next Thursday, 16 January.  The cost is £17.50 for this half term (5 sessions), which has to be paid in advance.  If you have not already filled in a form and your child would like to take part, please collect a form from the office.

All other clubs will commence the week beginning 20 January.  A separate letter will be coming home with further details about these.  Please check your child’s book bag.

Yours sincerely

Larissa James
