Spring 2 - Save the Rainforest

This Spring we'll be exploring the Rainforests of our planet. We'll be drawing on our Geography skills to locate them on a map and to talk about the climates they have. We'll be looking at plants and what they need to survive. We'll be looking at Greta Thunberg and her persuasive arguments to the adults of the world to change our ways to look after the world in the future.

We launched our topic by exploring the book and animation There's a Rang-Tan in my Bedroom.

Spring 1 - The Lady and the Lamp

This term we are exploring the iconic figure of Florence Nightingale and how she helped improve the way hospitals operated in the past and how this has transferred into modern day. With the help of a history box of Victorian artefacts we will explore how life has changed. The children will use their knowledge of Florence Nightingale to compare the work of Mary Seacole and argue who they thought was more important. To end our topic we will write letters to the NHS to thank them for looking after either ourselves or members of our family.

Autumn 2 - Frozen Planet

This term we'll be exploring the most Southern Part of our Planet - Antarctica. We'll be looking at Ernest Shackleton's Journey to the Antarctic and how he used our school values of 'Never give up' and 'Teamwork' to survive. Using our Geography skills we'll explore the Oceans and the Continents and to look at how the climates change.  We'll explore the lives of penguins understanding how the survive in these conditions.

Autumn 1

Titanic

This half term we will be travelling back in time to April 1912 to find out what happened to the 'Ship of dreams' Titanic. The children will be writing using both fiction and non fiction genres as they think about what they would hear, see and feel if they were a passenger on board.

The children received this message from Captain Edward Smith to launch our topic...
