At the beginning of September we measured the height of all the year ones and created a height display. We are looking forward to measuring them again in July 2021 to see how much they have grown!
Autumn 2
Out and About
During this topic we are putting our Geography hats on to explore our local area! We have been on a walk around Popley to see what human and physical features are around our school. We spotted different types of accommodation, shops, parks and a church. The children have then made posters to explain to visitors what they can see and do in Popley.
Our key text this half term in Naughty Bus by Jan and Jerry Oke. The bus gets up to all sorts of mischief and we will be using the ideas from the book to write our own version set in Popley!

Autumn 1
We’re On the Move!
Welcome to Year 1!
We are starting our year with an exciting transport themed topic where we will be learning about the history of different modes of transport. Our key person study will be all about the pilot Amelia Earhart. What facts can you find out using the links below?
The life and disappearance of Amelia Earhart Video
We look forward to getting to know the children this half term Please keep checking back for more news about what we get up to.
Our focus text is The Hundred Decker Bus by Mike Smith. In class we have sequenced the story and written simple sentences to retell the beginning, middle and end. You can continue to share and talk about the story at home by viewing the document below.
The story inspired the children to design and make their own hot air balloons like the ones at the end of the story. Come back soon to see the final result!
