Newsletter 1 – 9th September 2013
Dear Parents / Carers
Welcome back to our existing parents and a warm welcome to our new YR parents. We hope you had a fantastic summer holiday and enjoyed the warm weather.
We have a busy half term ahead so please check your child’s reading folder and the school website regularly for any news. Year group Curriculum newsletters will also come out soon detailing the topic for this half term and suggesting ways you can support your child’s learning at home.
We welcome many new staff. Miss Harrison, teacher in YR Little Owls; Miss Fellhauer, teacher in Y1 Speckled Owls, Mr. Cullington, teacher in Y2 Hawk Owls, Miss Pearce, Learning Support Assistant in YR Owlets, Mrs. Darby, Learning Support Assistant in Y1 Tawny Owls, Mrs. Raynsford, Learning Support Assistant in Y1 Barn Owls, Miss. Hankova, Learning Support Assistant in Y2 Eagle Owls.
School starts promptly at 8.45am and classroom doors will close at 8.55am. Any child who is late must be signed in at the office. If your child is absent from school please inform the office by 9.30a.m. otherwise your child’s absence will be recorded as unauthorised. The school’s expectation is 95% attendance per year.
Please ensure that school dinners are either paid in advance or on the day. If a debt is accrued of £4 (i.e. 2 school dinners) then you will need to provide your child with a packed lunch until the debt is paid. YR children are entitled to free YR school lunch from Friday 6th – Thursday 19th September.
Please send any money in to school via your child’s zippy wallet, preferably inside a separate envelope for each item or with a slip of paper detailing the amount paid and what it is for. Please provide correct change or cheque wherever possible. Any change owing will be sent back home in your child’s zippy wallet at the end of the school day. Please do not try to pay loose change over the desk in the office (unless you are buying school uniform). All money coming into school should first be logged in the classroom with your child’s teacher.
Please ensure all uniform, including hats, scarves, water bottles, reading folder, PE kit and bags are clearly labeled. There is a Lost Property box in the front entrance.
Please remember that the school car park is for staff only. Parents / carers must park on Romsey Close or preferably the car park at Abbey Road shops and walk the short distance. Please be mindful of our neighbours and don’t block entrances.
We are looking to recruit 3 Lunchtime Supervisors to cover lunchtimes between 12.00 – 1.15pm. Please see the office staff for an application form and further details.
Clubs for Y1 and Y2 will start the week commencing Monday 23rd September. A letter with details will come out shortly. If clubs become oversubscribed we will operate a waiting list. Football Club, managed by Chelsea Football Club, will start on Thursday 12th September. This is open to all year groups. If your child wishes to join this club you will need to fill in the separate form for this which was sent home with your child last Friday.
Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriuclum Information meeting
We have had to change the date for our parent information meeting about the EYFS curriculum. It will now be held in the school hall on Wednesday 18th September at 5.30 – 6.30pm. We would prefer no children to attend with parents in order that you will be able to fully understand the EYFS requirements. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.
In order to improve communication with parents, we have introduced a texting service. Parents have found it to be a very helpful means of receiving important information about what is going on in the school. However, if you do not wish to receive text messages please inform the office. Otherwise if we do not hear from you, we will assume that you are happy to receive them.
